prominent feature on the map of Cambodia. During the wet season it can expand
to 12,000km2 making it the largest freshwater lake in Asia. During
the dry season the Lake shrinks to as small as 2,500 km2. Again the
Lake offers a lot of different options to spend your day.
o Chong
Khneas
Chong
Khneas is a floating village at the edge of the Lake. It is the most accessible
village. When you get to the lake you can hire a boat which will take through
the village. The boat mostly makes two stops, one at a ‘fish and bird’
exhibition with a souvenir and snack shop and the other stop is at the Gecko
Environment where they offer more information about the ecology and
biodiversity of the lake area.
o Prek
Taol Bird Sanctuary
The
Prek Taol Bird Sanctuary has been called: ‘the most important breeding ground in Southeast Asia for
globally threatened large waterbirds.´ The most common bird species are: Greater
and Lesser Adjuncts, Black-headed Ibis, Painted Stork, Milky Stork, Spot-billed

is during the dry season as the number of birds increases.
o Kampong
Phluk
Kampong Phluk is a cluster of three villages of
stilted houses between the floodplains of the Tonle Sap Lake. The villages are
surrounded by flooded Mangrove forest. It is far less touristy then Chong
Khneas and really gives you a better view of how the people live on the Lake.
o Kampong
Khleang
Kampong
Khleang is even more remote and less touristy then Kampong Phluk. If you go
there in the dry season you will be surprised to see a cluster of houses built
on stilts rising 10 meters above the ground. In the wet season however this
will only be 2 meters. The village can be reached by boat or car depending on
how high the water is.

you can enjoy a lovely dinner and watch Traditional Apsara dancing. These
